WC Inter-continental playoffs: Zabo Makes Definitive List With PSG Star
Indomitable Lionesses coach, Gabriel Zabo has put out a definitive list of 23 players to take part in the 10-team Intercontinental playoffs penciled for February 18 to 23.
The list of 23 usual suspects with a few players selected from his pre-selected list of 25 that was made up of mainly local players.
From his initial list of 25 pre-selected players, 5 players have been given the nod: two goalkeepers, one midfeilder and two forwards.
Brenda Tabe and Eliane Bibout have all been credited for flying starts to the just-started Guinness Super League with 6 goals between them.
Coach Zabo has kept the spine of the team skippered by Aboudi Onguene. Estelle Johnson, Ajara Nchout, Ngock Yango amid other populous names make the list.
However, there is a new name in the den.
The call-up of Nina Soufiya Ngueleu, 18, was received with mixed feelings.
Ngueleu has been part of the PSG U19 squad since the 2020-2021 season when she was just 16. She is distinguished by her qualities of speed, power and accuracy.
The aforementioned qualities have seen her hit the target fifteen times in the youth category.
During the last two seasons capital club, she had some cameos with first team. This season, she has played three games with the first team, including one as a starter.
Nina Soufiya was on the bench when the French champions lost to OL in the Champions Trophy at the start of the season.
As proof of her good performances in PSGs colors, Nina Ngueleu is one of three finalists nominated for the title of Titi Girl d’Or 2022, a distinction rewarding the best young PSG player voted by their peers.
The youngster has never hidden her wish to Cameroon in international competitions. She visited the Indomitable Lionesses in June 2022 when they were in preparations for the women’s AFCON.
The Lionesses will face Thailand for the right to play top seeds Portugal in the Group A final for a chance to reach the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The final three qualifiers for the expanded 32-team finals, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand, will be decided in Auckland and Hamilton from 18-23 February next year.
