FIFA Club World Cup: Ahly Lose Bronze To Flamengo In ‘See-saw’ Game

The third place game in the FIFA Club World Cup turned in favor of Flamengo against Al Ahly (4-2), on Saturday February 11 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat.

Beaten respectively by Al Hilal (3-2) and Real Madrid (4-1), Flamengo and Ahly were fighting for third place in the tournament.

Both teams put up a spirited display with twists and turns with 6 goals.

Gabriel Barbosa opened the scoring for the Brazilians at the 11th minute from the penalty spot before Ahmed Abdelkader with strikes at the 37th and 60th minutes turned the tide in favor of Ahly. Pedro equalized for his team in the 70th minute.

As the game headed into extra time, the South American champions added two more goals through Barbosa in the 84th minute from the penalty spot, and Qatar World Cup campaigner Pedro, who completed his brace in borrowed time (90 + 1).

This is the second time that Al Ahly have lost a Club World Cup third place game in history after losing to CF Monterrey (2-0) in 2012.

Flamengo, beaten finalists if the 2019 edition (defeat against Liverpool 1-0 after extra time), finished third for the first time in its history.
