U20 AFCON: Hosts Egypt Held In Opener Against Mozambique

The opening game of the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations between Egypt and Mozambique gave birth to a stalemate. There was no winner, no goal in a game that was sorely lacking in rhythm.

The Egyptians dominated the first period without being able to unlock the Mozambican defense. Ahmed Abderrahim (5th), Bilal Mazhar (12th) and Karim Debis (22nd) had a flurry of chances but could not concretise in the first stanza.

Ahmed Abderrahim had the biggest chance of the second period, but hit the opposing goalkeeper’s post. The Mozambicans were harmless but held on to snatch a valuable draw against the hosts.

Egypt meet Nigeria on Wednesday February 22 to try to win their first game of the tournament, while Mozambique will challenge Senegal to try and build on the good result.
