AFCON 2021: Gambia – Mali Part Ways A Goal Apiece

A late goal snatched parity for Gambia against Mali, on Sunday afternoon, in match day two of the AFCON (group F), and should offer the Scorpions a round of 16 slot for their first AFCON finals in history.

After defeating Mauritania (1-0) at the opening game, the Scorpions snatched a hard fought draw against Mali (1-1) after a tale of of penalties.

While Ibrahima Koné thought he had done the hardest part by converting his second – tournament – penalty kick in the 79th minute, four days after the one that had won against Tunisia (1-0) in the famous match stopped before the end by the referee, Musa Barrow also equalized from the penalty spot at the last minute (1-1, 90th).

This time, goalkeeper Ibrahim Mounkoro was beaten, unlike Wednesday when he managed to stop Khazri.

Earlier on, The Gambia had twice hit the upright from a free kicks in the first half, first, by Musa Barrow at the 21st minute, and Ablie Jallow (38th) minute.

The draw was prolly huge disappointment for the Malians, who were of course favorites. They nevertheless remain the best placed to finish at the top of group F.
