Al Hilal Stun Flamengo To Clinch Maiden Club World Cup Final Slot

Saudi club-side Al-Hilal qualified for the final of the Club World Cup on Tuesday after defeating Flamengo 3-2, and they will meet the winner of the match pitting Real Madrid against Egyptian giants Al-Ahly, which takes place on Wednesday. It is the first time Hilal will be disputing the final of this tournament since its inception in 2000.

Tagged outsiders, Al-Hilal qualified for the final on Tuesday by beating Brazilian side Flamengo.

Al-Hilal opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 4th minute through Salem Al-Dawsari. After a difficult first quarter of an hour, Flamengo came back to level terms thanks to Pedro who curled into the net at the 20th minute.

Hilal was given a second penalty at the end of the first half after regulation time had expired, due to a foul by Gerson who was, at the same time, given a matching order after receiving a second yellow.

Al-Dawsari doubled the lead (45th + 9). With ten men, the Brazilians failed to get back into the rhythm at the start of the second period.

Al-Hilal first missed some great chances in the 58th and 67th until a fine goal by Luciano Vietto in the 70th. From a tight angle, Vietto calmly adjusted his shot and deceived the Flamengo goalkeeper.

Pedro doubled for Flango but it was a little too late at in stoppage time (90+1). Winners of the Asian Champions League, Al Hilal follow proceedings to know their opponents in the final on Wednesday. Hilal have had two participations in 2019 and 2021 which ended in two fourth place finishes.
