Senegal, Algeria Monopolise CHAN 2022 Team Of The Tournament

Three days after the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship 2022 final won by Senegal against hosts Algeria, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Technical Study Group unveiled its team of the competition.

Champions Senegal are present with 5 representatives: Pape Sy, voted best goalkeeper of the tournament, full-backs Mamadou Sané and Cheick Sidibé, with Lamine operating in the midfeild. Lamine was one of three players up as one of the 3 finalists for the title of best player, but he lost it to Mrezigue.

The home-based Teranga Lions equally have winger Papa Diallo, who scored 2 goals in the tournament, in the team of the tournament making it 5 players from the Senegalese side. Coach Pape Thiaw was picked as gaffer of the team.

Hosts and finalists Algeria have four players in the team of the tournament: Aymen Mahious, top scorer of the tournament (5 goals) center-half Ayoub Abdellaoui and Chouaïb Keddad guard the backline, and midfielder Houssem Mrezigue, named best player of the tournament.

The two finalists had the lion’s share and only Madagascar, who finished 3rd, managed to interfere between them by placing in midfielder Dax and wideman Solomampionona Razafindranaivo Koloina (3 goals). Koloina finished best player of the group stage and is a new recruit of MC Alger.

4th after being beaten 1-0 by Madagascar in the 3rd place, Niger is not represented in the team.
