Burkina Faso appoints former assistant, Brama Traoré as head coach

The Burkinabè football federation announced today – the appointment of Brama Traoré, nicknamed “researcher”, as the new coach of the Stallions.

The move follows the team’s round of 16 exit at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

In an effort to start afresh, the federation chosed not to extend the contract of the former coach, Hubert Velud, and his team.

Brama Traoré, previously in charge of the U20 and U23 categories, will have the task of leading the national team to qualifications for AFCON 2025.

His experience as assistant to Paul Put, who led the team to the final of the AFCON in 2013, is an asset for the stallions.

The appointment of Traoré is part of a trend of favoring local technicians to lead national selections in Africa, like Aliou Cissé in Senegal and Emerse Faé in Cote D’Ivoire.
