CAF CL: Abdelaoui, Bayazid on target for MC Alger as YANGA hit “panic button”
MC Alger secured a 2-0 victory against Tanzanian side Young Africans, with the match taking place at the Olympic Stadium of July 5 in Algiers on Saturday evening. The game was part of the second round of Group A in the African Champions League, and the score was level at halftime (0-0).
The goals for MCA came in the second half, scored by Abdelaoui in the 64th minute and Bayazid in injury time (90+5).
This victory puts MC Alger at the top of Group A, temporarily sitting on 4 points, ahead of the second match in the group between Sudan’s Al-Hilal and Congo’s TP Mazembe scheduled for Sunday at 20:00.
In the opening round of the group stage on November 26, MCA held TP Mazembe to a 0-0 draw in Lubumbashi, while the Young Africans suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Al-Hilal Omdurman.
Looking ahead to the third matchday, set for December 13 and 15, TP Mazembe will face Young Africans, while MC Alger welcomes Al-Hilal behind closed doors.
In other news, the second Algerian representative in the competition, Belouizdad (Group C), also found success earlier on Saturday, winning 1-0 against Stade d’Abidjan thanks to a goal from Aymen Mahious in the 71st minute. With this away victory, CRB (3 points) reignites their qualification hopes following the goalless draw (0-0) between joint leaders from South Africa and Egypt’s Al Ahly, both currently on four points.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
