Pyramids try in vain to break down stubborn Djibola in CAF Champions League group D
Egyptian club Pyramids FC were held to a 0-0 draw by Djoliba on Sunday, maintaining their position at the top of Group D in the CAF Champions League after two matches.
The Emirati-owned side, competing in their second Champions League campaign, have four points and lead the group ahead of Tunisian giants EspΓ©rance on goal difference.
Pyramids started brightly, with Mostafa Fathy and Marwan Hamdy testing Malian goalkeeper Youssouf Koita, though neither effort posed a significant threat.
Djoliba grew into the game after the break, pressing high and forcing the Egyptian side to adopt a more defensive approach.
Veteran goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy preserved the draw with a stunning late save to deny DiakitΓ©βs effort, ensuring the visitors left Mali with a hard-earned point.
