CAF CL:Ahly Keeps Check Of Sundowns With Victory Over Al Merrikh

Ahly has recorded its first victory in the group stage of the CAF Champions League!

After a draw in Sudan against Al Hilal (0-0), followed by an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at home to Mamelodi Sundowns, the two-times defending champion recovered well by snatching her first victory against the Sudanese side Al Merreikh (3-2) on Saturday in Cairo.

It was a delayed fixture of match day 1 which had been postponed due to the participation of the Red Devils in the Club World Cup.

Ahly started firing sharp after a double from their regular scorer, Mohamed Sherif at the 2nd and 34th minute. Pitso Mosimane’s men saw the deficit halved before the break by Tony Edjomariegwe, two minutes before the pose, and an equaliser from Elsamani Saadeldine at the 69th minute.

The struggle of the Egyptian’s paid off and it came courtesy an own goal from Mustapha Karshoum (76th), to see Ahly win all 3 points. The Red Devils are placed 2nd place after 3 match days, 3 points behind Sundowns in group A
