CAF Confed. Cup quarter-final draw: Holders Zamalek to face Stellenbosch
Egyptian giants Zamalek have been drawn against Stellenbosch FC of South Africa in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals following the draw held in Doha on Thursday.
The defending champions advanced after topping Group D with 14 points, while the Stellenbosch side finished second in Group B with nine points.
Meanwhile, Port Said-based Masry have been paired with Tanzanian heavyweights Simba.
Masry secured their quarterfinal berth by finishing second in Group D with nine points, while Simba topped Group A with 13.
The quarterfinal ties will be played over two legs. The first and second legs are scheduled for 2 and 9 April, respectively.
The draw produced the following pairings:
- Stellenbosch (South Africa) vs. Zamalek (Egypt)
- ASEC Mimosas (Côte d’Ivoire) vs. RS Berkane (Morocco)
- CS Constantine (Algeria) vs. USM Alger (Algeria)
- Masry (Egypt) vs. Simba (Tanzania)
The winner of the Zamalek-Stellenbosch clash will face the victor of the Masry-Simba encounter in the semifinals.
Similarly, the RS Berkane-ASEC Mimosas tie winner will meet the team advancing from the CS Constantine-USM Alger matchup.
In addition, the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced that the tournament’s final will be played over two legs on 17 and 25 May.
