Cameroon-Senegal, Burkina Faso-Mauritania maintain friendlies despite AFCON pairs

A foretaste of the 2023 AFCON will take place on Monday next week, as decision makers have decided to forge on with the Cameroon against Senegal friendly, as well as the Burkina Faso against Mauritania game.

Recent rumors speculated a possible cancellation of the friendly match between Senegal and Cameroon, scheduled for Monday October 16 at Bollaert, at the RC Lens stadium.

The split reasons were linked to the fact that the two selections found themselves in group C of the 2023 AFCON, following the draw carried out on Thursday in Abidjan.

The question of cancellation seemed all the more likely following the declarations of Augustin Senghor, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF): “There was a possibility that we met in the same group, we knew that could happen. Matches had to be scheduled. Mauritania and Burkina Faso are in a similar situation. I will discuss with the match organising agency and President Samuel Eto’o to see possible adjustments. It’s complicated to play two months before and find yourself in the same group. »

However, fans of both teams can rest assured that the friendly match will take place.

“After the consultations following the AFCON 2023 draw, it was decided by all parties that the Senegal-Cameroon match on Monday October 16, 2023 in Lens will be maintained,” the Senegalese Football Federation announced this Friday morning through a press release .

Three months before the rumble in Cote D’Ivoire, the two national teams will therefore face each other in Europe.

This match will, without doubt, be an exciting preview of what we can expect from 2023 AFCON.

It is a similar situation for the Burkina Faso and Mauritania game scheduled for Tuesday in Morocco.

“We are not going to cancel a friendly match because we meet at the AFCON. In any this case, you do not choose your opponents. In the name of this principle, the match will be maintained,” assured the president of the Burkinabè Federation, Lazare Banssé.
