Cameroon Shines at the Dakar Open: Impressive Medal Haul in Judo Championship
The 9th edition of the Dakar Open, hosted at the Diamniadio Exhibition Centre, concluded as a remarkable success, marking the final event for the 2024 season organized by the Union of African Judo (UAJ). This prestigious competition not only showcased top-tier judo talent but also served as a pivotal trial run for the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where judo events are slated to grace the same esteemed venue.
In a display of sporting excellence, Senegal emerged triumphant, claiming the coveted top position in the overall standings. Following closely behind, Cameroon secured a commendable second place, while Angola clinched the third spot on the podium.
The Cameroon judo team, consisting of 8 skilled judokas, delivered a stellar performance, capturing a total of 8 medals—4 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze—across various weight categories. The standout achievements included:
