Cameroon: The National Interpools return to Yaounde

The 2023 National Interpools is billed for July 15 to 30 — in the nation’s capital Yaounde, for the first time since 2018, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have communicated.

“The Cameroon Football Federation has the honor to inform the public that a tourney for the promotion of the Elite 2, baptized the ” Interpools Yaounde 2023″ will be disputed in the nation’s political capital of Yaounde,” FECAFOOT’s press statement reads.

The tournament draw will be conducted on June 22, the federation opines on the same release.

The National Interpools is equivalent to a third-tier playoff with teams from the 10 regions, where at the end, a minimum of two teams will ascend to the countries second-tier.

Last season, just two teams gained promotion to the second division. Victoria United (South West) and Aigle de Moungo (Littoral).

The last time Yaounde hosted the competition, FAP, Leopard and OFTA made it past the Interpools and ascended to the MTN Elite 2. Thereafter, OFTA later elevated to the Elite One, but then, dropped back to the inferior leagues, while Leopard and FAP have maintained their Elite Two status.
