Falcons Football Club Win Gambian League With Two To Spare

The Falcons Football Club of Abuko has won a second domestic division – title with two games to spare. The team nicknamed ‘The Blue Army’ secured the title following a 3-0 defeat of Immigration at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum yesterday.

Lamin Sanneh’s charges had earlier grabbed one of the two automatic spots (another two will be secured through the playoffs) to the National First Division few weeks ago.

“In their first ever full season in the national league system, not only did they secure qualification to the First Division but by doing so and winning the title with six points still up for grabs is indeed a remarkable success story and definitely a victory for Gambian football,” Mr. Lamin Kabba Bajo, President of the GFF said.

“There story is a testament that with hard work, commitment, determination, proper investment and with the right personnel in place, no story is beyond achievement. Falcons story should give hope to everyone that and I therefore challenge more individuals and corporate groups to invest in football because since our qualification to a maiden AFCON, Gambian football will never be the same. Thus, let us see football beyond its current context of corporate social responsibility and see its potential in creating numerous employment opportunities.” Lamin ended.
