Peace Talks Underway In Seoul As UPF Intensify Hunt For Global Truce
Tinkermen of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) announced that they will launch a new initiative called the International Alumni Roundtable at the 2023 Peace Summit, which started on May 2 and and will last till the 6th of same month in Seoul, South Korea.
The “International Elders Roundtable” initiative aims to harness the wisdom and experience of elders to bring peace and stability to society and nations worldwide, UPF has communicated.
“Young people and adults have vision and enthusiasm, but the elders are paving the way for them with their experience and knowledge. Therefore, for there to be peace and prosperity, there must be cooperation between the elders, the adults and the youths in our society,” the Federation’s statement stresses, quoting Maithripala Sirisena, former President of Sri Lanka.
Delegations from more than 150 countries, including heads of state, first ladies and heads of government, joined parliamentarians, religious leaders, media professionals, business and academic leaders to explore the prospects for greater regional cooperation and accumulated peacebuilding efforts.
The regional sessions of the Peace Summit 2023 focuses on building peace in North America, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbeans, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
“We have found ourselves at a critical moment in history, with the emergence of growing threats to peace around the world; our awareness of this volatile context underscores the importance of our work during the 2023 Peace Summit,” said Dr. Thomas G. Walsh, President of UPF.
At the summit, a panel has been reserved for young people and students. Sunhak Peace Price laureates will speak at a special luncheon in their honor and Think Tank 2022 members will discuss ways and means for building peace on the Korean Peninsula, East Asia, and in the Indo-Pacific basin, quotes the UPF statement.
Included in the program is the 80th birthday celebration of UPF co-founder Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, who is presiding over a groundbreaking ceremony for the so-called “Culture of Peace” building, a huge hall of multimedia exhibition intended to be “a homeland for the world and a city of the heart for all people” as the late UPF co-founder, Reverend Dr. Sun Myung Moon wished.
The 2023 Peace Summit is part of UPF’s ongoing series of peacebuilding activities, which are organised around the theme of mutual prosperity, interdependence and universal values. UPF, an NGO in General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, is known for its rally of Hope series, International Leadership Conference and its 2022 Think Tank series.
