Fortune FC Wins First Gambia League Title

Fortune Football Club have for deservedly won their first Gambian league title. The Petroleum Boys won with a last kick of the match goal to beat Wallidan 2-1 on Thursday under the floodlights at Bakau’s Independence Stadium.

After taking the lead on the hour mark, Wallidan scored to tie the match at 1-1 right on the stroke of regulation time.

However, with the clock ticking down, the Farato-based team was awarded a free kick with almost the last kick of the game. Ebou Sanyang’s curling shot flew into the bottom left corner of the net to seal coach Jane Joof’s side the title.

Fortune and Wallidan both have three matches remaining and with the win, the Blues are 12 points behind and with the third place team a further point behind, with only four matches before the end of the season, they now have an unassailable lead.
With only 9 years in existence, Fortune will now represent Gambia at next season’s CAF Champions League.
