Fouzi Lekjaa draws road-map for 2030 World Cup

On Wednesday in the meeting of council of ministers chaired by His Royal Majesty King Mohammed VI, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, delivered a presentation to the King on the progress of Morocco’s preparations for hosting this major international sporting event.

The Minister outlined the key milestones achieved in the Kingdom’s bid and highlighted the Sovereign’s announcement to the Moroccan people on October 4, 2023. This announcement followed FIFA’s Council’s unanimous decision to endorse the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole candidacy, sparking a significant mobilization to prepare a comprehensive bid dossier meeting FIFA’s requirements.

The Minister emphasized that the tripartite bid submitted to FIFA on July 29, 2024, reflects a robust and unprecedented mobilization of working groups, including ministerial departments, public institutions, companies, and local authorities.

FIFA’s evaluation report on the bid, released on November 29, 2024, awarded an outstanding score, far surpassing the stipulated criteria. This exceptional result positions the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid to secure hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup during the upcoming extraordinary FIFA Council Congress.

To meet the organizational challenge and aspirations, the Minister announced the formation of an expanded committee under High Royal Directives. This committee will include representatives from civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African talents.

The mobilization will be further strengthened through coordinated efforts with all stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of strategic projects essential for hosting this global event, including:

Upgrading stadiums;

Expanding and renovating airports in the six host cities;

Enhancing road infrastructure and improving intra-urban networks;

Launching an integrated territorial development program beyond the host cities;

Developing hotel and commercial facilities;
Modernizing medical services;

Enhancing telecommunications networks;

Introducing a comprehensive training program to build youth skills.

Concluding his address, the Minister stated that the 2030 World Cup will not only be a sporting event but also a transformative opportunity to accelerate national economic growth, create jobs, enhance Morocco’s tourist appeal, and promote universal values of peace, unity, and sustainable development.
