CAF CL: ES Tunis secure last 8 spot after win over Djibola, with a game to spare

Esperance Tunis booked their place in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals after a crucial 1-0 victory against Djoliba AC on Sunday in Bamako. Elias Mokwana’s decisive goal in the 67th minute lifted the Tunisian giants to the top of Group D, tied on 10 points with Pyramids FC but ahead on head-to-head record.

Esperance mostly controlled the game and played a strong defense against Djoliba’s assault. There were many near-misses in the first half, with a header from Hamza Jelassi hitting the post and a near-goal by Zoumana Simpara of Djoliba.

Esperance exerted more effort in the second half and scored with a well-placed shot from Mokwana. Even though they had more chances to score again, they only managed to win by a small margin.

Djoliba is still last in the group with two points, while Sagrada Esperança is in third place with five points. Both teams are out of the competition, so Esperance and Pyramids will move on to the next round.
