Exclusive: Cameroon’s Serge Daura set to join African giants Al Ahly this weekend

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are poised to make a major statement in the final days of this January transfer window with the addition of Cameroonian international, Serge Daura, after a  successful try-out. Daura will reportedly be handed a four year deal with the 12-time CAF champions League winners.

According to exclusive reports from sportglitz, the erstwhile Gazelle FA forward has been in Cairo, finishing paper works ahead of this blockbuster move before the February 8 deadline.

Aged 21 year, Daura  became one of the most talked-about names in Cameroon over the past couple of seasons, and was linked to moves to France, in fact. The 2024/25 season for him was nothing short of spectacular, where he racked up 15 goals and 11 assists in just 25 appearances. This double-double performance earned him both the Golden Boot award.

Daura’s explosive form did not go unnoticed by international scouts. While Raja Casablanca was heavily linked to the forward last summer, Al Ahly’s sporting project proved too persuasive to ignore. By securing Daura’s signature, the Red Devils have successfully outmaneuvered several continental rivals to land a player who is widely considered the future of the Indomitable Lions’ attack.

The addition of Daura is a calculated move by head coach Marcel Koller. Known for his tactical flexibility, Koller is looking to inject youth and clinical finishing into his frontline as the club pursues a dual domestic and continental title charge.

Daura’s versatility—capable of playing as a central striker or an inverted winger—will be a vital asset for Al Ahly’s upcoming CAF Champions League campaign, a competition where the club’s pedigree is unmatched.

This move represents a significant step up for the young Cameroonian. Transitioning from the domestic league to the high-pressure environment of the Cairo International Stadium is no small feat, but Daura’s physical presence and instinct for goal suggest he is ready for the challenge.

Beyond the pitch, the transfer highlights the strengthening footballing ties between Cameroon and Egypt, two of Africa’s historic powerhouses. All eyes will now be on the Egyptian Premier League to see how quickly the Cameroonian Wonderkid can make his mark on the grandest stage of African club football.

Daura will become the first Cameroonian to play for continental giants Al Ahly after Lambert Araina was monitored by Pitso Mosimane but deal failed in 2021.
