Cameroon and Nigeria Set for WAFCON Warm-up in Yaoundé

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon welcome Nigeria’s Super Falcons to Yaoundé for two friendly matches ahead of the 2026 WAFCON, which is set to take place in Morocco in just a month’s time. These fixtures are set for February 28 and March 3.

The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that all logistical arrangements are finalized.

NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi emphasized that these matches are central to the federation’s commitment to the team’s success. By securing top-tier opposition, the NFF aims to ensure the Falcons are physically and tactically equipped not only to defend the WAFCON title they won in 2025 but also to secure a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

From another release, Isaac Mandong of the Cameroon Football Federation expressed enthusiasm for hosting the Nigerian squad. He noted that the matches represent an opportunity to foster stronger diplomatic and athletic ties between the two footballing powerhouses.

The stakes for the upcoming tournament in Morocco are high, as the competition doubles as the African qualifying path for the global stage.

With the WAFCON tournament running from March 17 to April 3, 2026, the Lionesses or Super Falcons must reach the semi-finals to guarantee direct qualification for the World Cup in Brazil.

These friendlies in Yaoundé act as the ultimate litmus test for the defending champions before they begin their quest for an 11th continental crown.

When these teams last met, the Lionesses showed great spirit but were undone by two first-half errors. Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade capitalized on those defensive lapses to score a brace, sealing the win. The Super Falcons then carried that momentum forward, defeating Morocco on their home turf to claim an unprecedented 10th WAFCON title.
