FECAFOOT G.A: Door Slamming, Absentees; All You Need To Know!

The General Assembly of Cameroon’s Football Federation (FECAFOOT) had its General Assembly yesterday, and recorded some argie bargie moments, with a rush of adrenaline causing tension in the hall.

Firstly, the acting Secretary General of FECAFOOT – Didier Benjamin Banlock, was absent from the event.

It was one of the most anticipated moments of this general assembly of the Cameroonian Football Federation which was held at Mont Febe hotel in Yaounde. The absence of Benjamin Didier Banlock was proof that as indeed reported for sometime now, the latter has distant himself from activities of the Cameroonian Football Federation.

The next highlight reel was the door slamming of two former Cameroon internationals; Eugene Ekeke and Bell Antoine.

The two former Indomitable Lions, present at the extraordinary general assembly on August 8, both left the hall fuming, according to Allezleslions.net

The two were reportedly not in one piece with statutes of the departmental and regional leagues and those to set up the electoral commission which will organize the elections.

87 delegates out of 111 expected were present in the GA, meaning 14 delegates were absent.

At the end of the extraordinary general assembly which he chaired on Saturday in Yaoundé, Seidou Njoya, the boss of the Cameroonian football federation, gave a press conference. At the end of this general assembly, can we say that it is the end of the quarrels and that we can now play football? I want to say once again, you know that’s my usual rant when I’m with you. I usually end with that by telling you that we have to play football, we have to give this priority to those who are invested in football and who want things to change. I’m going to quote this story from a visitor I had in my office not long ago who was telling me, he’s someone who’s old in football, “how do you do president to organize so much? competition? “I said but the money we have, we put it all into football this year. This money has not gone up in smoke, perhaps unfortunately in some legal cases but not in trivialities because management is tight, governance has improved and money is no longer thrown out the window. The real beneficiaries are the football players, they are the ones who should be privileged.

After the meeting, FECAFOOT president Seidou Njoya met with reporters and had the following to say;

We cannot continue on this path. Footballers need to be put back in the center of football debates, and we must make it a duty.

All the problems I face today, all those who oppose our governance, these are the very ones who have gotten used to habits, which unfortunately does not benefit football players today. At the tail end, that’s where we are headed.

I was very happy to hear feedback from some of the delegates saying yes we had a good season because we played till the end.

In the most remote corners of Cameroon, a football player told me “It’s been years since I had seen football money in my region, in my department and this little orange money that I ‘ve received as player ” that is the only pleasure we can give them (players) and we are here for that.

It is my duty to serve and not to use football money. That’s what I’m going to do and I don’t want football money to be thrown into endless litigation. I hope that at last this is the end of the story and now we are going to usher in a new era. I touched on the important themes in my keynote address: bringing the football family together. And I mentioned the second theme to which I will also come back later: the generational transition. Most of us are leaders who have been there for many years. We have to clean up, put things in place and think, at some point, to hand over to young people. I invite young people to take an interest in football, this is their home. The house does not belong to anyone, it still has a lot of problems and it has come a long way and things have to be stabilized. We have to put things in place so that sooner or later we put this house in good conditions so young and people capable people can continue this mission and preserve the heritage acquired by a great footballing nation which is Cameroon.

As for what has changed in the texts and when is the next professional football league will resume, there is a lot to be done. There were basically no big changes proposed or suggested by delegates. It was either because the translation was not the same in French and English. But for the texts, frankly we had almost unanimity on it. The idea we have today in relation to the professional league is that common sense would dictate that at the end of the championship that we all sit down with the club presidents and place a finger on “professionalism”. I would like us to take note of the two seasons that we have organized and the general assessment of the 11 years of professionalism with club presidents.

Look at each other, discuss and look to the future. Whether we consult each other on issues of format, quota, or representativeness.

The club licencing is something that CAF and FIFA have put in place that will almost be an obligation in the coming years. If you do not meet the conditions, you do not have the license to participate in CAF competitions. We will also have a national license club, which if you do not meet the conditions at the national level, you do not gain professional status. You cannot call a professional club if it does not have a training ground, if it does not have an U15 selection, or if it does not have a women’s selection. There is a minimum quality a club should present, and the minimum for me is to have a training ground. Then there is all the administrative aspect. I want us to get to this point by mutual agreement, to discuss, and to exchange with everyone.

The FECAFOOT elections is earmarked for October later this year.
