Volleyball Lionesses: Stephanie Fotso Mogoung Retires
Three-time African Women’s Volleyball Championship gold medalist, Stephanie Fotso Mogoung has announced her international retirement, aged 34.
The middle-blocker has been a great inspiration to the younger generation, and answered present whenever called upon by coach Jean Rene Akono.
She made the announcement on her official handles, stating;
‘like you can all imagine, its a difficult and important decision I have to take in my life, because defending the national colours has always made me proud…..’
‘ I have to make out time for other projects and to the people I love, as I have not been in constant touch with them since my international career started in 2014…..’
‘Dear fans, I will like to thank you for your support. Especially at the 2017 African Women’s Volleyball Championship win in Yaounde, in Egypt (2019), and Rwanda (2021)….’ part of her retirement speech reads.
The latter equally made a name for herself, plying at a top club level with VBC Chamalieres and VC Harnes.
Fotso, born on September 25, 1987 – in Limbe, has been a monument in the sport and its growth in Cameroon.
As achievements, Fotso was part of the Cameroon Women’s Volleyball team at the 2014 Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Italy, and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She won a hat-trick of gold medals at the 2017, 2019 and 2021 African Women’s Volleyball Championships.
She then participated with the Lionesses in the 2018 Women’s World Volleyball Championship, plus, she won the silver medal at the 2019 All Africa Games.
