Exclusive: Mosengo-Omba to Pursue FECOFA Presidency
Veron Mosengo-Omba has resigned as the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and according to sportglitz sources, he is set to run for the top seat at Fédération Congolaise de Football Association.
His departure from CAF was formalized during an Executive Committee meeting held in Cairo on Sunday, March 29, marking the end of a tenure that began in 2021.
Mosengo’s exit paves the way for his bid to lead the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA), a move that has been the subject of intense speculation within continental football circles.
The transition comes at a critical juncture for FECOFA, which has been under the guidance of a FIFA-appointed Normalization Committee since April 2023. While initial schedules pointed towards an April 11 election, recent reports suggest a potential shift into May 2026 due to logistical and financial constraints, with the candidacy submission window expected to be extended accordingly.
Mosengo-Omba’s entry into the race is bolstered by recent statutory amendments that allow candidates with extensive international football experience to qualify, even without a strictly domestic administrative background. He is expected to face competition from notable figures including former Congolese Sports Minister Claude-François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo, who has also declared his intention to run.
Mosengo-Omba is positioning his candidacy around a vision of modernization and reform, leveraging his high-level experience at both FIFA and CAF. His platform reportedly emphasizes grassroots development and the professionalization of domestic structures to align FECOFA with global standards.
