The Equality League Kicks Off Its Fifth Season
The fifth season of La Ligue d’Égalité (The Equality League) officially commenced on November 22, 2025, in Yaoundé. This launch marks a significant new chapter in the program’s enduring mission: empowering young girls through sport. Established in 2022 through a collaboration between Petrichor and LALIGA, the initiative has rapidly evolved into a vital platform where future Cameroonian women learn to excel, gain essential skills, and cultivate both professional and personal ambitions.
For Paul Dreisbach, President of Petrichor and co-founder of the project, the significance extends far beyond the pitch: “This league is much more than just a football competition. It’s designed to provide young women with a robust platform where they can develop the competencies needed to thrive in life, both on and off the field. We are actively contributing to the development of future leaders who will drive positive change within their communities.”

An Inspiring Launch Ceremony
The Rain Forest International School hosted the launch, welcoming players, parents, coaches, and partners in a vibrant atmosphere to inaugurate the new season. Matches will be played over four months at the Stade Bandeko Ewokang, with the final scheduled for March 7, 2026.
Six clubs from Yaoundé are competing this year: Sporting, Boston FC, Espoir Académie Football, Petrichor Elite, Espérance, Mella & Reyre, and Christian Foot Académie. Each club is fielding teams across the U13, U15, and U17 categories, underscoring the competition’s increasing scale and intensity.
UNICEF Cameroon Joins as Strategic Partner
A notable highlight this season is the addition of UNICEF Cameroon as an official partner. The organization provides substantial support to the project’s educational component, focusing on areas such as children’s rights advocacy, female leadership, protection, and gender equality. To commemorate its involvement, UNICEF organized engaging, educational activities for nearly 200 young participants, further strengthening the community focus of the event.
More Than a League: An Holistic Educational Ecosystem
The Equality League distinguishes itself through complementary programs that support participants well beyond the football fields.
- The Mini-Stars program, designed for girls aged 8 to 12, introduces the youngest participants to football while instilling core values of self-confidence, leadership, and solidarity. These participants also receive community meals and sports equipment donations.
- Another key element is the training of women coaches. Through the Values to Win program, implemented in partnership with the Fundacion LALIGA, approximately thirty participants will once again receive free training this year focused on human values, team management, and crucial life skills. The tangible benefits are already evident, with several program graduates securing coaching positions in various clubs.
Inspiring Figures Grace the Event
The launch event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Jaime Loira Juarez, First Secretary of the Spanish Embassy; former captain of the Indomitable Lions, Stéphane Mbia; and international artist Bad Nova, famed for his song Hala Madrid. All attendees commended the project’s expanding influence and encouraged the young girls to relentlessly pursue their aspirations.
For Georges-Henri Alladjim, LALIGA International Delegate in Cameroon, partnerships and community dedication are fundamental to this achievement: “By empowering young girls through sports, fostering greater inclusion and solidarity, and forging lasting friendships that transcend their differences, we continue to demonstrate the true power of our fútbol.”
Growing Impact Year After Year
With nearly 600 beneficiaries anticipated this season, The Equality League confirms its role as a catalyst for social transformation. It is restoring confidence to young girls who are often marginalized, providing them with secure environments, and demonstrating that leadership is not bound by age.
By integrating football, education, mentorship, and solidarity, La Ligue d’Égalité has established itself as a model for social impact in Cameroon. In Yaoundé, the evidence is clear: future leaders are blossoming, with a ball at their feet and confidence in their hearts.
