Tarik Sektioui Departs the Moroccan Federation

Tarik Sektioui has  submitted his resignation to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). This departure marks the conclusion of a highly decorated chapter with the home-based Atlas Lions and the U23s leaving a void in the national technical structure just as the country prepares for a busy international calendar.

Beyond his widely celebrated success on the global stage, Sektioui proved his mettle by asserting Moroccan dominance within regional and international competitions. His leadership of the Local A’ national team culminated in a historic run during the FIFA Arab Cup, where he successfully navigated to win the trophy in Qatar.

Sektioui’s most defining achievement remains the  silver medal secured at the Olympic Games. He  guided the team to the podium, and shattered  a long-standing barrier for the nation in Olympic collective sports. This achievement was widely viewed as the final credential needed to solidify his status as a natural successor within the senior national team hierarchy.

A Frustrated Transition

It is widely understood that Sektioui’s departure may be rooted in a deep sense of frustration regarding the Federation’s long-term succession strategy. Having delivered major titles and an Olympic medal, Sektioui reportedly viewed himself as the primary candidate to eventually step into the most senior roles within the Moroccan coaching setup. The decision by the FRMF to instead lean toward Mohamed Ouahbi for key developmental and transitional responsibilities appears to have been a turning point. Feeling overlooked despite his undeniable track record, Sektioui’s resignation suggests a coach who believes his contributions deserved a clearer path to the summit of the national game.

Tarik Sektioui leaves the Federation  as a coach who raised the bar for what is expected of Moroccan home-grown managers. As he seeks a new challenge, the FRMF now faces the difficult task of replacing a man who delivered consistency, discipline, and some of the most memorable moments in the nation’s recent footballing history.
