André Onana Extends Incredible Trophy Tradition With Trabzonspor Turkish Cup Win

Cameroon international André Onana has added another trophy to his  career after helping Trabzonspor defeat Konyaspor 2-1 in the 2026 Turkish Cup final on Friday night in Antalya.

Trabzonspor clinched the title thanks to a brace from Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, who scored in the 18th and 79th minutes to secure the club’s first Turkish Cup triumph since 2020. Konyaspor had briefly equalized through Jackson Muleka early in the second half, but the Black Sea Storm eventually held firm to lift the trophy.

Onana played a decisive role in the victory, producing several important saves throughout the encounter, including a crucial intervention after initially denying Muleka before the forward converted the rebound. The Cameroonian goalkeeper also watched Konyaspor miss a vital penalty during the second half as Trabzonspor preserved their advantage in a tense finale.

The triumph continues an extraordinary pattern in Onana’s career — winning domestic cup silverware at every major club he has represented.

The 30-year-old first built his legacy at Ajax, where he won the KNVB Cup in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons alongside multiple Eredivisie titles. His performances in Amsterdam established him as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers and helped Ajax reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2019.

After moving to Inter Milan in 2022, Onana immediately added the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup during the 2022/23 season while also guiding the Nerazzurri to the UEFA Champions League final.

His winning run continued in England with Manchester United, where he lifted the FA Cup in the 2023/24 season following the Red Devils’ victory over rivals Manchester City at Wembley.

Now at Trabzonspor on loan, Onana has once again ended the season with silverware, further reinforcing his reputation as a goalkeeper who delivers trophies wherever he goes.

The Turkish Cup success also marks a significant personal moment for the Indomitable Lions star, who has endured criticism and difficult spells in recent years, particularly during his time in the Premier League. His performances in Turkey, however, have revived confidence in his quality, with Trabzonspor supporters hailing him as one of the team’s key figures throughout the campaign.
